No, no thanks. You can go ahead and not be where I live.

Kinja'd!!!

That's the second one this size in as many weeks. Time to look for holes to seal I guess....

Door weather stripping, that’s how they get into my house.

Gross. I have two decently sized windows that need better weatherstripping, those could be part of the problem too

I try to relocate those bastards if I can. Put em back outside, let them kill more bugs.

I used to do that, but I'm fairly positive they just come back inside. Once it starts raining around here, the spiders really start showing up inside

I leave their bodies in the house as warnings to their compatriots. No tolerance policy. I don’t care if they’re friendly. I kill them all and let God sort them out.

My house is full of these...

and these have made it in on occasion too...

...so spiders don’t really bother me any more. I’ve found the best way to control spiders (and scorpions and centipedes) is to control the things they eat. A good barrier spray every 90 days around the inside and outside of the house is good at keeping out the ants and gnats that these things eat. Making sure you clean up food spills helps too (I’m not good at that since I have two little kids, so I get ants and then the scorpions come calling.) The most common place for them to get in is weather stripping around doors like others said. If you have a garage check the seal to the garage. Mine sucks, because I have a lip between the garage and driveway, so I need to keep up the weather stripping on the door between the house and garage as well.

Oh god no thanks, that sounds unpleasant. This house is from 1948, and has never been renovated, the most work done was in the 70s, and maybe 5 years ago when the basement flooded and the landlords built the suite that I live in. Needless to say, it’s not very well sealed. Especially not the big old style windows this downstairs has for some reason, I suspect that’s where most of them get in. I’m gonna go around this weekend and seal all the holes around the trim and maybe finally add baseboards in the main room....

After you seal put up a good barrier spray too. You might want to consider a service contract if that doesn't get rid of them. I pay a company around $500 a year to come out 4 times a year and treat the house. It has gotten rid of most of the bugs and critters. I could do it myself, but $125 per treatment is a good deal so I don't have to go crawling around in the attic.

Yeah that’s definitely a good deal. I have a friend that works in pest control who said all we’re getting is spiders, to just seal up and don’t leave food or anything out, and that couldn’t really help unless we got ants or something else along those lines. I’ve just been lazy and haven’t sealed yet....
